James Donaldson is a hero. He was just 24 when he tragically died in a motorbike accident. But James did something extraordinary and his death brought life. James donated his organs and he saved the lives of four others. His liver went to a 55 year old man, a 10 year old boy received a kidney, a 51 year old woman was given his second kidney and pancreas, and a 38 year old man received his heart.
James’ mother, Carol Donaldson, was inspired by her son’s actions. She now works tirelessly for Nottingham University Hospital to raise awareness about the issue of the lack of people putting their names down for organ donation. Carol comments “James was a hero even in death. All we’re asking is for people to seriously put some thought into joining the [organ donation] register, because it really does change people’s lives.”
